Security Conference: Signs of weakness will not end this war – Opinion

After a year of daily murder, after a year of resistance: Vladimir Putin has nothing to negotiate – apart from the details of a Ukrainian capitulation. The West must not forget this, no matter how great the longing for peace.

Like last year, the 2023 Security Conference will be remembered as the pinnacle of uncertainty. The question of when and how the war in Ukraine that Russia started can and will end is to be expected, but it has also remained agonizingly open. In 2022, just a few days before the Russian attack, many had still allowed themselves to hope for a mild outcome. This time, almost every escape route from the dreary reality was blocked.
