Second stage of the Tour de France: Lafay surprises the favorites – Sport

The French professional cyclist Victor Lafay from Team Cofidis has won the second stage of the 110th Tour de France in the Basque Country. The team colleague of Berlin’s Simon Geschke won after a courageous attack in the last meters of the longest section of this year’s edition after 208.9 km in San Sebastian in the sprint of a leading group ahead of Belgian Wout Van Aert (Belgium/Jumbo-Visma).

The British winner Adam Yates successfully defended the yellow jersey for first place overall. Meanwhile, Pogacar collected further bonus seconds with third place and the successful hill sprint on the Jaizkibel. The Slovenian has thus gained a total of eleven seconds in the duel with last year’s Danish winner Jonas Vingegaard. The result of the stage and the overall standings can be found here.

The German professional cyclists played no role in the decision of the day. On Monday, the tour bids farewell to Spain on the third stage over 193.5 kilometers from Amorebieta-Etxano to Bayonne. Then the sprinters can hope for their first mass finish.
