Second “Loki” season
The Marvel anti-hero celebrates his dream return

The second season of “Loki” is here and continues seamlessly from the first – both in terms of plot and success.
Since the beginning of October, Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth, 40) cunning half-brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston, 42) has been up to mischief in the series of the same name on the Disney+ streaming service. The second season of “Loki” not only marks a landmark moment for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). She also does it extremely successfully.
What is it about – and what distinguishes the series and the main character?
Loki’s entire character development within the MCU would provide enough material for a doctoral thesis. The short story: Initially introduced as the cunning foster son of Odin (Anthony Hopkins, 85) in “Thor” (2011), just a year later he acted as the main villain of the first “Avengers” film. In the numerous other Marvel films, Loki gradually became a popular figure in spite of himself and, through a stroke of luck in “Avengers: Endgame”, he finally ended up from the bier in an alternative reality – and his own series.
This largely takes place in the so-called Time Variance Authority (TVA) – an organization that monitors all time strands and, if necessary, directs them into the (supposedly) right path. In season one, Loki and his new friend Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson, 54) finally discovered the dark secret of the TVA.
Season two now continues seamlessly from the events of the first six episodes. What makes his search for the truth much more difficult, however, is the fact that Loki initially finds himself in a “time distortion” and therefore jumps back and forth uncontrollably between the past and the present…
The theme of “Loki” allows the creators to let their creativity completely off the leash – both in terms of time and space. Similar to “WandaVision,” this results in story progressions and show values that are not present in the more classic Marvel series. In any case, there were no crocodile versions of Hawkeye, Falcon or the Winter Soldier from parallel universes yet. Not to mention a second season, only “Loki” has achieved that so far.
The humor of the series deserves special mention in this regard. “Loki” deals with very serious events. Time and time again, however, it is thanks to the sheer absurd adventures of its lanky and cheeky main character that “Loki” tickles a special funny bone: screwball comedy meets situational comedy in four dimensions.
In addition to the astonishingly profound fan favorite Loki, Wilson’s Mobius and Sophia Di Martino’s (39) Sylvie Laufenydottir – another Loki variant – also matured into interesting characters over the course of the first season, which only had six episodes. At the start of season two, a notable addition was made in terms of personnel: “Indiana Jones” cheeky badger and Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan (52) is now part of the game. How fitting: He received the golden boy award for his supporting role in the strange “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” which also skipped happily through alternative realities.
Season three already in the works?
Like season one, issue two also consists of six episodes, two of which are already available to stream. As a result, not much has been made public about a potential third season at this early stage. Producer Kevin Wright (27) recently confirmed that there is an intention to continue telling the story revealed in an interview with “Comicbook”.:
“We are definitely thinking about how we can continue to spin the stories of the TVA and Loki,” Wright gave fans hope for one and even several more seasons. The infinity of parallel realities always offers enough material.
