SEC Sues Bittrex for Operating Unregistered and Listing 6 Tokens as Securities

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has prosecuted digital asset trading platform Bittrex and its co-founder and former CEO William Shihara for unregistered operations.

The SEC filed four counts of violations of the statute in the Western District Court of Washington, and the SEC noted that tokens are listed as securities: OMG, Dash, Algorand, Monolith (TKN), Naga (NGC), IHT Real Estate. Protocol (IHT), which is traded on Bittrex.

Bittrex received a Wells notice about the upcoming litigation in March. The exchange has announced its intention to shut down its US operations on April 30 due to the regulatory environment.

“We ask them to tell us which digital assets on our platform they view as securities. for us to review and possibly remove. But they refused to do so,” Bittrex stated.indeclaration
