Sébastien Vincini, part of the PS and supporter of Nupes, becomes the new boss of the department

Since the resignation of Georges Méric, a fortnight ago, he has been acting as head of the Haute-Garonne departmental council. This Tuesday, during a session, he was officially elected president. At 44, Sebastien Vincini thus takes the reins of this local authority after having been its vice-president for a long time.

Very close to Olivier Faure, he is part of the leadership of the PS as national secretary in charge of federations and is one of the promoters of the New Popular, Ecologist and Social Union (Nupes) electoral agreement for which he has worked, leading the negotiations for his party.

In a territory very anchored on the left, this position was not unanimous within his own socialist political family. In particular with Carole Delga and her supporters, opposed to an agreement with France Insoumise. The president of the Occitanie region was however present this Tuesday for the investiture of her now counterpart in the department.

Former federal leader of the PS in Haute-Garonne, the one who had been elected in 2020 mayor of Cintegabelle, a former stronghold of Lionel Jospin, indicated on Tuesday that he had “a deep attachment to public service, which constitutes the heritage of those who do not have one”.

This engineer in Geosciences spoke about the climate emergency, the fight for feminism or even the general interest and public solidarity. One of his first gestures was to announce that he would give “more room to the elected representatives of the minority”. “I say minority and not opposition because I want us to be able to work, with our legitimate political disagreements, for the general interest. For this, I have decided to restore the function of general rapporteur for the budget and to entrust it to an elected member of the minority, ”he announced to the 54 elected members of the departmental council.
