Friedrich Merz is not having an easy time in his party these days. But the CDU leader still has friends. One of them is in Austria.

Former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is hoping for Friedrich Merz as chancellor after the next federal election. “In the end, it’s always the voters who decide, but I would give him that The CDU and of course the Federal Republic want him to be the next German chancellor,” Kurz told the newspaper star.

From his point of view, Merz and the CDU have “the best answers to the great challenges of our time, be it climate change, inflation or socio-political questions.”

Sebastian Kurz likes the new CDU design

A few days ago, Kurz publicly praised the CDU’s new brand design. Some observers thought that the turquoise blue color scheme was reminiscent of the appearance of the ÖVP under Sebastian Kurz, which had used a similar color at the time.

“Of course, the most important things are always the topics and content that a party promotes,” Kurz told the star. “The CDU is a modern bourgeois party and I think the new color expresses that well.” Kurz fell into investigations into possible false statements and manipulated surveys in 2021.

The CDU had given itself a new color and a new logo at the beginning of the week. After 50 years, the three letters CDU are again black instead of red, and the basic color is a light turquoise blue. The logo now also includes three stripes in black, red and yellow pointing to the top right. The redesign is intended to standardize the appearance nationwide.

The presentation of the new design also sparked discussions because of an image film by the CDU. In the film, the Reichstag building in Berlin was confused with the Georgian presidential palace in Tbilisi. The head of the agency responsible for the error commented in star about the background to the breakdown.
