Sean Penn was in Ukraine when the Russian attack began. Now the Hollywood star is helping people fleeing the war in Poland.

Sean Penn (61) helps people who have fled to Poland from Ukraine. The Hollywood star’s charity has, according to “Mail Online” signed an agreement with the Mayor of Kraków, Jacek Majchrowski (75), on the provision of assistance for refugees.

The actor and director has been filming a documentary about the Russian invasion of Ukraine for the past few weeks. After a brief return to Los Angeles in early March, he has now appeared in Kraków, Poland, to announce his plans. His aid organization CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort), which was founded in 2010 to help earthquake victims in Haiti, will open a center in the city. It is intended to support the care of refugees.

Locals are to be hired and given extensive training to help people coming from Ukraine, some 250 kilometers away. Accordingly, CORE will also finance the renovation of buildings available for accommodating refugees in Kraków.

He wants to tell the “truth about what happened”.

Oscar winner Sean Penn documented his trip from Ukraine to the Polish border on his Twitter account at the end of February. He walked past a kilometer-long queue of cars in the direction of safety before he started the journey home to Los Angeles in the meantime.

Previously, footage after the start of the Russian attack showed the actor still in Ukraine. Since November 2021 he has been working on site on his documentary film, which is intended to tell the “truth about what happened”.

Penn received praise for this project from the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj (44). Penn shows “courage and honesty,” said the politician. The actor attended a press conference held by government officials and exchanged views with journalists and military officials to learn more about Ukraine’s defense strategy.
