Last week the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic was released in cinemas and attracted many people to cinemas worldwide.

The sci-fi epic “Dune: Part Two” reportedly has its opening weekend in North America grossed $81.5 million (€78.5 million) at the box office. As the industry publication “Hollywood Reporter” reported, it is not only the most successful theatrical release this year – the film also managed to double the result of the first part. According to Variety, it is the most successful theatrical release since Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.

The film brought in $178.5 million (164.6 euros) worldwide, including $8.4 million (7.7 million euros) in Germany, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The second part of “Dune” was released in German cinemas last Thursday. Director Denis Villeneuve’s first visually stunning film (2021) was a huge success at the box office. According to the industry portal “Box Office Mojo”, “Dune”, which was filmed with a budget of around 150 million euros, grossed more than 400 million euros worldwide.

The material is based on a series of novels by Frank Herbert. The story centers on the desert planet Arrakis. Only there is a special, valuable substance – which is why the planet is exploited by other powers in the galaxy and its inhabitants are oppressed. Villeneuve gathered many stars for his film adaptation, including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh and Austin Butler.
