It was one of the funniest moments of the last “Wetten,dass..?” program: presenter Thomas Gottschalk confused the names of Matthias Schweighöfer and Bastian Schweinsteiger several times. The actor and the footballer are now making fun of it again.

Remembering names and pronouncing them correctly is not one of Moderator’s strengths Thomas Gottschalk. He also made one or two faux pas during his last “Wetten, dass…?” broadcast last Saturday.

Gottschalk confused actor Matthias Schweighöfer and footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger several times: he called Schweighöfer Schweinsteiger and he changed the footballer to Schweigsteiger. The correct pronunciation of the name of Ana Ivanović, Schweinsteiger’s wife, also caused problems for Gottschalk. Gottschalk flirtatious with his slips of the tongue: If he loses his bet, he wants to say Bastian Schweinsteiger ten times in a row.

Schweighöfer and Schweinsteiger also took the lapse with humor and have already published some funny reactions on social media. “A family. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas,” the two joked in a post. Schweinsteiger additionally commented: “I hope you think of my gifts.” NMatthias Schweighöfer followed up and published a video on Instagram in which the heads of the two men were swapped using AI technology.

Schweighöfer can now be seen in the jersey of FC Bayern Munich and the German national football team, while Schweinsteiger appears in the comedy “100 Things” and the Netflix film “Army of Thieves”. Also a scene from “Wetten, dass…?” was recreated with the heads swapped. “Who doesn’t know them… Greetings from your favorite ballers!”, Schweighöfer commented on the clip and invented a mixture of the words actor and footballer.

The posting received around 48,000 likes in the past 15 hours. Thomas Gottschalk also hit the “Like” button. The Munich company Storybook Studios GmbH, which specializes in AI in the film industry, is behind the video. Who knows, maybe it wasn’t the last appearance together of Matthias Schweighöfer and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
