Schwabhausen: The Scary Garden – Dachau

Don’t worry – Hape Kerkeling, author of the book entitled “I’m Gone Then” is not buried here. This is the garden decoration for Halloween by Stefan Braun from Schwabshausen. Even as a teenager, Braun was interested in “horror and horror”. He was particularly influenced by American films and series. In 2008 he went to America himself, together with his wife. So they could experience how extensively Halloween is celebrated there. “Then the fever really got the better of us,” remembers Braun. From then on it was clear: “If we ever have our own house, we want to do it too.”

No sooner said than done: At first it started “quite small”, over the years the decoration has grown steadily. Getting together with neighbors has also become a tradition. Parents can meet up while the kids go on a candy tour. Just in time for All Saints’ Day, the decorations are being taken down again, out of respect for the holiday and out of consideration for the neighbors, as Braun says.
