Scholz and Abbas: The chancellor’s mistakes in dealing with this guest – opinion

The Chancellor does not contradict when the Palestinian President says unspeakable things about the Holocaust. And that’s not the only mistake that happens to him.

Middle East politics is tricky terrain – Olaf Scholz has now experienced this. The fact that he left Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ statements about the Holocaust unchallenged while standing next to him in the chancellor’s office will further strain already strained relations with Israel. Apparently, the chancellor did not adequately prepare for Abbas’ visit. The Palestinian, who has been in office since 2005, is well known for his tirades. It’s not the first time that he’s been noticed with his relativization of the Holocaust.
