A train driver initiated emergency braking after running over an “unknown object”. The raccoon was subsequently found dead. He must have gotten lost.

An accident with one Raccoon triggered a rescue chain on the railway line towards Lübeck in Ostholstein. A train driver noticed near Techau that he had run over an “unknown object” and initiated rapid braking, as the Schleswig-Holstein Federal Police announced on Monday night. The train came to a stop after a little more than 700 meters.

The section of the route was closed from shortly before 8 p.m. to shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday evening. A rescue chain consisting of the fire department, federal and state police, emergency services and emergency managers arrived. The raccoon was found dead and seized. Next to the track it was “almost forest-like” and the raccoon probably got lost on the tracks and didn’t get away in time, according to the federal police.
