The winner of the election, Daniel Günther, actually only needs one coalition partner. But the old and probably new Prime Minister wants to continue the Jamaica alliance.

In Schleswig-Holstein, the CDU, Greens and FDP are preparing for exploratory talks to form a new government. Further internal talks were held in Kiel on Thursday.

After the clear victory of his CDU in the state elections last Sunday, Prime Minister Daniel Günther wants to explore with the Greens and the FDP next Tuesday whether the three parties that have governed together since 2017 could continue their alliance – although the CDU would also have a secure majority with two-party alliances .

A small party conference of the CDU had Günther strengthened for his course on Wednesday evening. He wants to continue the success story of the past five years, said Günther. Jamaica is the desired coalition of a large majority of the population. And the CDU was also able to assert strong positions in this constellation.

The CDU clearly won the election with 43.4 percent. The Greens got 18.3 percent and the FDP 6.4 percent. The SPD fell to a record low of 16.0 percent, the SSW (Southern Schleswig Voters’ Association) reached 5.7 percent. In theory, the CDU could form coalitions of two with all other parties in the state parliament.
