The clarification of the RBB affair drags on. The Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating, but a “new, reportable state of affairs” can be expected at the end of the year at the earliest, but probably not until next year, a spokeswoman told the Evangelical Press Service (epd). The evaluation of the materials continues.
At the beginning of August last year, the investigations against the then RBB director Patricia Schlesinger, her husband Gerhard Spörl and the then RBB administrative board chairman Wolf-Dieter Wolf were taken up by the Berlin public prosecutor’s office. All three deny the allegations, the presumption of innocence applies. It is about the suspicion of infidelity and acceptance of benefits. The media had previously reported, among other things, about questionable consultancy contracts with a possible connection to RBB. Schlesinger resigned as RBB director on August 7 and was later terminated without notice. Wolf resigned from his supervisory position at RBB on August 9, after having let it rest for some time.
In mid-August last year, the Attorney General’s Office took over the investigation. A few weeks later, they were expanded to include the then administrative director and former deputy director, as well as the then legal director of the RBB. They are accused of infidelity or aiding and abetting. The property crime is about a possibly inadmissible use of RBB funds to the detriment of the broadcaster. Apparently, no one has been exonerated so far: According to the Attorney General, the five suspects are currently being investigated.
