Schiller’s “Maria Stuart” in Bamberg – Theater Review – Bavaria

One is Queen of Scotland, the other of England. Together, Mary Stuart and Elizabeth I form two sides of the same coin. This is how Philipp Arnold sees it in his production of Schiller’s “Maria Stuart” at the ETA Hoffmann Theater and first places the two rulers on the revolving stage. Separated only by a large wall, they stand there solemnly, staring straight ahead and circling, circling, circling. Then it starts and is over again after less than two hours.
