Schauspiel Köln: Kay Voges is to become the new director – culture

Director Kay Voges is to become the new director at Schauspiel Köln. As was learned from well-informed theater circles, the 51-year-old is the candidate that Cologne’s mayor Henriette Reker will propose to the city’s main committee on Monday and, if everything goes smoothly (which is to be expected), on Tuesday together with Stefan Charles, head of the cultural department will be presented to the public. Voges, currently artistic director at the Wiener Volkstheater, would then succeed Stefan Bachmann in the 2025/26 season, who in turn is moving to Vienna. Bachmann replaces Martin Kušej as director at the Burgtheater; it will already start in the autumn of next year. In the one year before Voges takes office in 2025, director Rafael Sanchez will temporarily direct the Cologne drama. This interim solution was already announced in June. Anything else would not have been “realizable” for potential candidates due to the short lead time, the city said.
