Frank Kramer continues to gain confidence at FC Schalke. However, the bosses were disappointed with the performance against Leverkusen.
The situation at Schalke is getting more serious. Nevertheless, head coach Frank Kramer continues to have confidence – at least until next weekend.
The 4-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen was the third in a row and the fifth in the ninth game. With six points now, Schalke has slipped to the relegation rank; if VfB Stuttgart scores against Union Berlin this Sunday, the royal blue would even be in a relegation zone. Since VfL Bochum also surprisingly won their home game against Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0, the bottom of the table has moved extremely close together.
In short: It’s getting more and more uncomfortable for the S04. And above all for Frank Kramer, who even after more than three months could not give his team any guidelines for an acceptable offensive game. Only two (harmless!) shots jumped out against Leverkusen. Schalke will not be able to stay up in the league in this condition – that seems certain.
The voices are therefore increasing in the Knappen fan camp, who advocate a change of coach. But Schalke is not (yet) thinking about this option. “The performance of our team disappointed us immensely today. The coaching staff around Frank Kramer, the team, we are all challenged to show an improved performance in all respects against Hoffenheim,” says a club statement that Schalke’s spokesman Marc Siekmann on mailed late Saturday evening.
Of the table football suspects, however, that the game against TSG Hoffenheim and ex-S04 coach André Breitenreiter (Friday, 8:30 p.m.) is likely to be the “final” for Kramer. If there is another (clear) defeat there, the 50-year-old can hardly be stopped.
