Mysterious things are happening in a place in the USA: the residents trapped there are being hunted by bloodthirsty monsters at night. Your life becomes a struggle for survival.

All people saw it when they arrived in the small village: the fallen tree. They have to turn back because of him – he’s blocking the road. But then everything becomes absurd for the travelers: they drive round after round and always end up in the same place. It doesn’t matter which road they take.

Currently running on the Streaming service Paramount+ the second season of the American horror television series “From”. There’s a new episode every week that leaves viewers wondering what’s actually going on. That’s what the involuntary residents of the place are trying to find out … but it doesn’t seem to be that easy.

Monsters blood hunt humans at night

In the first episode of the first season, a family, mother, father, daughter and son, are stranded in the mysterious place with an RV. They too have driven the umpteenth lap to finally find a way out of there. But then the family has an accident with a car that forces them off the road. The son is badly injured in the leg. The other residents of the village immediately rush to help the family – but this is not so easy because the boy cannot simply be taken out of the vehicle due to the injury.

The sheriff, a doctor and the boy’s father stay with him overnight and try to ignore what is happening outside the trailer. Whispering voices can be heard that inspire trust and want to establish contact with people. But the sheriff and the doctor know exactly what would happen if one of them left the mobile home: monsters that look like humans and roam the woods every night, mauling and skinning anyone they can get their hands on.

What is actually going on here?

From episode to episode, viewers learn more about what’s going on here…but not everything. It is a big mystery why exactly those people end up there who end up there. Why the monsters come out of the forest at night, why they are so dangerous and brutal – and of course the big question is why nobody can leave this place again.

In season two, a whole bus with several people stops in the first episode. The occupants and the driver first have to be convinced by the “experienced” who have been stuck in the village for a long time what nightmares happen there at night. They ask the newcomers to stay at the local diner after dark. Of course, not all bus passengers believe in monsters that blood hunt humans. And that is exactly what will doom them.

Mysterious – maybe a little too much

On the one hand, the fact that the viewers do not find out what is happening at all makes the series incredibly exciting. But on the other hand, you want to know more urgently from episode to episode what it’s about. At some point, the many mysterious elements that line up no longer have the desired effect: the viewer gets used to the fact that everything just becomes even more inexplicable when something confusing happens again. It’s frustrating when more questions are asked than answered.

It wouldn’t have been bad for the series if a few backgrounds had been explained more quickly. The horror scenes make you shudder, everything is super exciting because there’s always something new happening. The basic idea of the plot is also great. Nevertheless, in season two, the foot would have to be slowly taken off the brake so that the viewer does not get the idea that the plot is being artificially lengthened.

The whole scenario is a bit reminiscent of the TV series “Lost”, in which a plane crashes on an island and people are trapped there from then on – inexplicable things keep happening there too. From season to season, more and more mysteries are built up, some of which are never cleared up at the end of the series. Let’s hope that “From” gets a more satisfying ending. A few episodes are still open – which is why viewers can hope for an exciting rest of the season.
