series fans breaking Bad And Better Call Saul are in mourning. Mark Margolis, who played Hector “Tio” Salamanqua, a drug trafficker operating in both series, has died.
The American actor died Thursday at Mt Sinai Hospital in New York at the age of 83, with his wife Jacqueline and his son Morgan, the latter announced to the site variety.
“I was lucky to know him,” said his manager Robert Kolke, who pays tribute to a “unique” man and a “lifelong friend”, in a press release. On X, formerly Twitter, the creators of the series breaking Bad join the “millions of fans in mourning his passing” and salute his immense talent. “He knew how to make Hector Salamanca one of the most unforgettable characters in the history of television”, they write.
Indeed, his performance in the series earned him an Emmy nomination in 2012. He later reprized his role in the prequel, Better Call Saul. “I am devastated to learn that we have lost Mark Margolis. Mark was brilliant, funny, a storyteller with a million stories. I miss him already, ”reacted the producer for his part. Peter Gould who worked on both series.
A prolific actor
Born in 1939 in Philadelphia, Mark Margolis began his theater career on the boards of Broadway. He notably learned alongside Stella Adler at the Actors Studio, then Lee Strasberg and Barbara Loden.
Mark Margolis had acted in more than 70 films during his career, including scarfaceby Brian de Palma in which he interpreted the role of Alberto “The Shadow”, a bodyguard, but also black swan, Gone Baby Gone or Requiem for a Dream. He also appeared in the series oz, Sex and the City, American Horror Story, Californication or Gotham.
