It was a remarkable performance that Michael Kretschmer made on Tuesday evening in Grimma, Saxony. Saxony’s Prime Minister climbed onto the loading area of a truck and campaigned for solidarity with Ukraine in front of several thousand people. He called Russia an “aggressor” and attacked the “shouters” of the far-right “Free Saxony,” who were again able to hoist a system collapse banner without anyone intervening. The demo was registered by a master roofer and city councilor of the Free Voters. Entrepreneurs, mayors and a pastor stood on the improvised stage. But only Kretschmer was routinely shouted down. A wind turbine could be operated with all the anger that evaporates unused on Saxony’s market places.
