Michael Kretschmer is used to tough debates. During an election campaign in Pirna, he proved that he is not easily ruffled.

The Prime Minister of Saxony Michael Kretschmer (CDU) was loudly provoked by right-wing extremists at an election campaign event for his party. But the head of government remained calm at the event on the market square in Pirna on Wednesday evening. In a democracy it is important to listen and to find consensus on problems, he said. Unfortunately, some are not willing to do so. The CDU is a party that makes offers to people.

The right-wing extremist micro-party “Free Saxony” was marched with a few dozen supporters, including a poster that read “Arrest Kretschmer”. She tried to disrupt a barbecue party organized by the Union for the mayoral election in Pirna. Kretschmer remained calm and spoke to people in the city for a good hour and a half. Quite a few of them asked critical questions, for example on migration or Russia’s war against Ukraine.
