Corona protests

Right-wing extremist strollers
In Saxony, opponents of corona protective measures demonstrate alongside conspiracy ideologues and Reich citizens. The police are disoriented, the mayor hopes everyone will behave. How it could have come to this.

When it gets dark on Mondays in Zwönitz, Mayor Wolfgang Triebert knows that his city will have another restless night ahead of him. For months people have been gathering here in the Ore Mountains who call themselves “walkers”. In fact, however, it is right-wing extremists, Reich citizens, anti-vaccination opponents, conspiracy ideologues. Then there are those who do not want to be part of it, but have no qualms about getting in line to demonstrate against the corona protective measures. Sometimes there are only a few dozen, then again 200, that meet in the market or roam through dark side streets and residential areas. “Every Monday I hope that the demonstrators behave like ‘strollers’ and that the police don’t have to intervene,” wrote Mayor Triebert in an email.
