Saxony wants to restrict large parts of public life. Bars, clubs, discos, cultural and leisure facilities have to close. Unvaccinated people in hotspots with an incidence above 1000 are subject to a night curfew.

All cultural and leisure facilities as well as discos, clubs and bars will be closed, and the Christmas markets will be canceled nationwide. The state government announced on Friday evening. For unvaccinated people in the Saxon hotspots with an incidence over 1000, a nightly exit restriction applies from Monday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The gastronomy should be allowed to open until 8 p.m. with the 2G rule. In addition, any serving of alcohol is prohibited. For the time being, vacationers can no longer stay in Saxon hotels and holiday apartments. Professional sport is possible without a spectator, so there will be ghost games again in football. Gyms stay closed. Large events, festivals and trade fairs are also prohibited, as are tourist train and bus journeys. The restrictions apply until December 12th.
“The situation is highly dramatic,” said Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) with a view to the rapidly increasing number of infections in the Free State. What Saxony is experiencing will happen in many parts of Germany in the coming weeks and months. Pure 2G or 2G plus rules are no longer sufficient, a “breakwater” is necessary, said Kretschmer.
It is unclear whether this can be achieved with the measures: “The low vaccination rate is the real reason for this situation.” Use 2G and 3G wherever possible. “That’s why it’s not a lockdown either.” Saxony registered 7791 new infections within 24 hours on Friday. The districts of Saxon Switzerland – Eastern Ore Mountains (incidence 1047) and Meißen (incidence 1063) would be affected by the curfew.
In principle, the vaccinated would have to accept fewer restrictions, but these people would also have to be included in “solidarity”. “We need more us and less me to fight the pandemic,” emphasized Kretschmer. “This is clearly about solidarity.”
Schools and daycare centers remain open
Representatives of the Saxon state government emphasized that facilities for adults will initially be closed and schools and daycare centers will remain open. Daycare centers as well as elementary and special needs schools, however, have to go into the restricted regular operation, it said. It is due with a transition period from November 29th and means the strict separation of groups and fixed reference persons in order to keep infection chains short and comprehensible. School attendance will be suspended until Christmas.
“In view of the very high number of infections in Saxony, we are better safeguarding operations in schools and daycare centers. Making it possible to continue attending school and daycare under these conditions presents educators and teachers with enormous challenges, ”said Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU). However, it should not be the case that children and adolescents suffer from the fact that the rate of not fully vaccinated adults is nowhere as high as in Saxony.
A test is required three times a week to gain access to the school and daycare facilities if the person is not fully vaccinated or has not recovered. Regular testing is recommended for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. Schoolchildren from grade 5 are still required to wear a surgical mask or an FFP2 mask in class.
