Saxony: AfD politician Maier wants to be a judge again

The Saxon judiciary has another problem. Jens Maier, classified as a right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, is allowed to work as a judge again. This was confirmed by the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice, Anna Gürtler, MDR SACHSEN. Maier submitted an application for reinstatement in the Saxon judiciary on time. The Saxon newspaper reported first.

Maier threatens further disciplinary proceedings

However, Maier is not entitled to his previous position at the Dresden Regional Court. It has not yet been decided where the judiciary would like to use it in the future. The ministry now has three months to do so, the spokeswoman said. After his reinstatement, Maier is threatened with new disciplinary proceedings because of his earlier statements as an AfD politician. But this must be decided by the superior. Maier has been classified as a right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution since 2020. However, judges are expected to be particularly constitutional.

Reprimand for breach of moderation requirement

Jens Maier is assigned to the right-wing extremist wing in the AfD. He was not re-elected to the Bundestag in the 2021 election. In a speech in Dresden in 2017 he pondered an end to the “guilt cult” and the “creation of mixed peoples”. The result was disciplinary proceedings by the Dresden Regional Court, which ended with a reprimand. The Saxon AfD under its then boss Frauke Petry wanted to exclude him from the party. By the end of 2016, Maier had also ruled on media and press law issues at the Dresden Regional Court and had already caused a sensation when, in May 2016, at the request of the NPD, he initially banned the renowned Dresden political scientist Steffen Kailitz from making critical statements about the right-wing extremist party.

Because of a tweet, Maier was also sentenced to pay Noah Becker € 15,000 in compensation for pain and suffering in 2019. The eldest son of tennis legend Boris Becker was racially insulted on the Dresden politician’s Twitter account. The comment was later deleted.
