There are four graphics for sale at “Bares for Rares”. The owner only finds out how valuable her rarity is when she gets the expertise.

She has no idea what the graphics are actually worth: Yvonne Schabarum from Roetgen comes with a gift for “Bares for Rares”. She received the four works of art from a family friend. “If they’re originals, they’re too good for waste paper,” she thought when she saw the graphics by Walter Otto Grimm. Luckily. Because even if moderator Horst Lichter has never heard the name of the artist, his works are a sensation on the art market.

“Walter Otto Grimm died early and only worked artistically for two years,” explains “Bares for Rares” expert Friederike Werner to the two ignorant people. The German-American artist was extremely successful during his lifetime, but took his own life in 1919. The four graphics are signed by hand. “These are originals,” confirms Werner.

“Bares for Rares” expert exceeds expectations

Saleswoman Schabarum would like 50 euros per sheet for the four works. That would be 200 euros – and a ridiculous price for the rarities. Because Friederike Werner estimates the sheets in excellent condition at a proud 2300 to 2500 euros. “I wouldn’t give it up below that,” says the expert as advice for the dealer room. Owner Schabarum can hardly believe the sum. “I never expected it.” In the dealer room, she wants to heed Werner’s tip: “I will not sell for less than 2,000 euros.” But will you find a buyer for it?

Wolfgang Pauritsch starts with a bid of 500 euros. But Julian Schmitz-Avila is also interested in the four graphics. Both deliver a bidding war. Within a few seconds, the price rises to over 1800 euros. Pauritsch is ready to pay 2000 euros. But his colleague does not give up and outbids him again by 20 euros. With success. The graphics go to Schmitz-Avila for 2020 euros.

“It went really well,” said Schabarum happily. She got ten times the original asking price. The graphics are guaranteed not to end up in the paper waste. “You are in good hands.”
