Sauerlach – Tempo 30 on the state road – district of Munich

The municipality of Sauerlach is committed to traffic calming on one of the two main traffic axes through the town. According to a decision by the municipal council, a speed limit of 30 km/h is to be introduced on state road 2070 – Hofoldinger and Wolfratshausener Straße. The town hall administration was commissioned to obtain appropriate reports. However, its managing director Norbert Hohenleitner made it clear in the municipal council that the prospects of success were to be assessed as rather low. “The traffic is there, the state road is dedicated accordingly,” he said.

The committee also dealt with a more extensive application from local Agenda 21, which had called for State Road 2070 to be closed to all vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tons. However, the district office in Munich rejected this suggestion because it did not only affect the Sauerlach community. A blockage would divert heavy goods traffic to other surrounding communities, the authority said. Hohenleitner explained that further expert opinions would probably not change the mind of the district office. Therefore, a limit of 30 km/h on the state road should now be demanded, throughout the entire municipal area – not only in the main town of Sauerlach, but also in the district of Altenkirchen.
