Sauerlach – fake police officers cheat senior citizen for 25,000 euros – district of Munich

A senior citizen from Sauerlach was taken in by con artists who pretended to be police officers. According to the Munich police, the previously unknown perpetrators called the 80-year-old woman several times between Thursday evening and Friday shortly after midnight and used a popular scam that the police have been warning about for years: they told the woman that arrested burglars list had been found, which also included her name and address. As a result, their assets are now at risk. Through manipulative conversations, the callers finally got the woman to leave a bag of valuables in front of the front door. One of the perpetrators picked up this bag without being observed. The police estimate the value of the loot at around 25,000 euros.

The investigations are carried out by the “Phenomena” working group at the Munich police headquarters, which specializes in such cases. This is now asking for information from possible witnesses who observed suspicious people or vehicles on Hofoldinger Straße, Sommer-, Frühling- and Winterstraße or in their vicinity during the period in question by calling 089/2910-0.

In order to prevent such cases in the future, the Munich police advise potential victims who are contacted by alleged officers to call the police emergency number 110 immediately. This way they could make sure that they really are police officers.
