The ZDF crime series “Stralsund” before a change: Beginning: After Katharina Wackernagel left, Sophie Pfennigstorf joined the investigative team. She is not spared in her first case.

Cakes in the office are always a hit. Policewoman Jule Zabek brings her future colleagues something sweet the day before their first day at work. So that you can see each other. She stands a bit uncertain in the doorway, her future boss Karl Hidde invites her in. After all, nothing is going on right now. Just a missing person case, two sisters, probably just run away. Jule immediately has a bad feeling. As she leaves, Hidde hands her the case file. For training. And the new one is right in the middle. ZDF shows the thriller “Stralsund – The Long Shadow” on Saturday at 8:15 p.m.

A story of being alone

Jule Zabek (Sophie Pfennigstorf) is a young, committed police officer who obviously carries a lot of personal baggage with her. Screenwriter and director Lars Henning only touches on her past. The viewer does not find out exactly what happened to her. In any case, she has just moved from Rostock to Stralsund and urgently needs the job – if only to not be so alone.

Lead actress Sophie Pfennigstorf finds the torn, closed personality of the inspector particularly exciting. “I think her strength appealed to me from the start, her stamina, her resilience. And what was definitely a very important point for me is her difficult history,” she told the German Press Agency.

Bumpy start

In any case, the loner Jule tries to fit into her new team. Hidde (Alexander Held) gives her the desk of her predecessor Nina Petersen. A photo is reminiscent of the former Commissioner. However, there is no time for sentimentality. A body was found. Jules’ colleagues quickly notice that she has a keen sense for crime.

The dead man is one of the two missing teenagers who didn’t come home after a weekend of partying. Where is her sister Jenny (Antonia Breidenbach)? Investigators are determined to find the girl alive. During a lonely bus ride at night, Jule recognizes the possible murder vehicle. She gets out and starts a reckless solo attempt.

One of the suspects is Hanno Benke (Christoph Franken). The young man is an outsider. Awkward, with greasy hair and dirty fingernails. Jule had not found him at his home address. Instead, a former neighbor reported that Benke moved away after his mother’s death. He was a strange guy, a lot alone.

The rainy-gray scenery suits this dark story of being alone and the disappearance of two young girls. A strong start for the new Stralsund TV commissioner.
