An Italian song from the 80s seems to be becoming a Oktoberfest hit in 2023: “Sarà perché ti amo” is conquering the Oktoberfest.

Which song will be the Oktoberfest hit in 2023? A week before the end of Oktoberfest in Munich is becoming clear: this year an Italian classic from the 80s could win the race.

“Sarà perché ti amo” (roughly: “That’s because I love you”) is the name of the song that is currently particularly popular in the beer tents with swaying and singing along loudly. It comes from the Italian band Ricchi e Poveri (roughly: “Rich and Poor”) and dates back to 1981. The song was first presented live in the same year at the legendary “Festival di Sanremo”.

Shortly afterwards it conquered football – and became AC Milan’s unofficial anthem. It is still played regularly at club games today.

There is also a German cover version

In Germany the song climbed to number 11 in the German charts in 1981 and was successful not only in Italy but also in Switzerland (number 2) and Austria (number 7). The four-piece band Ricchi e Poveri was founded in Genoa in 1967 and is still active today. They have sold over 20 million albums since the late 1960s.

Her biggest hit is and remains “Sarà perché ti amo”: a Spanish version of the song also made the song successful in Mexico, the Caribbean and South America. It has been covered several times and is part of the soundtrack of several films (including the French horror film “High Tension” from 2003). In 2008, the pop singer Diana Sorbello (44) published a German cover version with the title “That’s because I love you”.
