Sarah Forestier propose to the government of Gabriel Attal to “tackle the economic model”, particularly “European”, because it is “the heart of the problem”. On the air, she read a letter she wrote, in which she proposed applying “the French cultural exception”. “It’s a fancy word, but it’s protectionism that doesn’t speak its name.” “The French state decided to protect its culture, and it did so,” she notes, so why not the peasant world?
The actress thus took the example of the “small percentage” on cinema tickets, which is “put in a fund to finance only the production of French films”. And added: “We are capable of putting in place systems where we intervene in the economic model to protect a sector of French production. So we decided to protect culture, and ultimately agriculture, we leave them like that, we let them die. »
The CAP better?
A sincere proposal, but which nevertheless joins the initial idea of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), one of the objectives of which, still today, is “to ensure a decent standard of living for farmers in the European Union », with, as we can see on the website of the European Commissiona budget of 41.43 billion euros for income support for European farmers for the year 2019.
In view of the movements of anger, and not only in France, this objective was not achieved at all, or even had the opposite effect, with many farmers having taken on debt to, among other things, increase their production, including purchase price decreases and must face external competition. Among their demands, French farmers are asking in particular for compliance with the Egalim law, supposed to ensure producers fair remuneration from distributors.
