Sandrine Rousseau supported by Bayou when Roussel does not want to talk about the “sex of cutlets”

The debate continues around barbecues and meat in general… The national secretary of EELV Julien Bayou supported Tuesday the remarks of the deputy Sandrine Rousseau on the barbecue “symbol of virility”, while the communist leader Fabien Roussel is offended that we are talking about “the sex of escalopes”. “Honestly, you’re not going to talk to me about the sex of cutlets anyway! “, he was indignant on Europe 1, believing that” some make the buzz on top “, in reference to Sandrine Rousseau.

On Saturday, during a round table in Grenoble, MP EELV felt that it was necessary “to change mentality so that eating a steak cooked on a barbecue is no longer a symbol of virility”, triggering controversy on social networks. “For me,” replied Fabien Roussel, who has already had many controversies with the ecofeminist on food issues, “we eat meat according to what we have in our wallet, and not depending on what you have in your panties or in your underpants”. He also invited “everyone to come and share the barbecues and the good meals of the Fête de l’Huma on September 9, 10 and 11”.

A more polluting regime

For his part, Julien Bayou agreed with his colleague MP: “It is very substantiated. The meat diet is actually more polluting and since men eat more red meat and twice as much charcuterie as women, yes there is a gendered approach to eating behaviors”. “In this subject there is the question of education in food tastes. People born in the 1970s or 80s grew up with the idea that there should be meat at every meal. It’s very difficult to get rid of it, ”he said.

He put forward “a proposal that environmentalists are implementing, the vegetarian alternative. Educate children in the canteen, with the right products”, to “be able to see that we can eat meals without meat and have a good diet”.

On Monday, LFI MP Clémentine Autain has already sided with Sandrine Rousseau: “Women eat half as much red meat as men, (…) so there is a gender difference in the way we consume meat. meat. And the people who decide to become vegetarians are mostly women, ”she argued.
