Actress Sandra Hülser received the French César Prize for Best Actress for her role in “Anatomy of a Case”. The evening was overshadowed by serious allegations against the film industry.

The German Sandra Hülser has been awarded the French César film award for best actress. Hülser received the award on Friday evening in Paris for her leading role in the film “Anatomy of a Case”. Its director Justine Triet was awarded the award for best director, and the film won a total of six Césars. The gala was dominated by the discussion about sexual violence in France’s film industry.

Triet is only the second woman to receive the César directing award. In her acceptance speech, she dedicated her award to “all women,” including “those who have been hurt.” Actress Judith Godrèche received thunderous applause at the awards ceremony in Paris for her passionate speech against sexual violence in the film industry. She denounced “the extent of impunity, denial and privilege” in the film milieu.

Film art a “cover for the illegal trade in young girls”

It should not be tolerated that film art is used “as a cover for the illegal trade in young girls,” said Godrèche. The perpetrators should “be careful of the young girls: they hit the bottom of the pool, hurt themselves, but they come back to the surface.” She dreams of a “revolution” in the film business.

Godrèche accuses directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon of sexually abusing and mistreating her as a minor and has become one of the most important representatives of the MeToo movement in the French film business.

Oscars could be the highlight for Sandra Hülser

Huller is also nominated for an Oscar for “Anatomy of a Case.” The Oscars will be awarded in two weeks. According to his own statement, Triet wrote the role in “Anatomy of a Case” specifically for Hülser.
