Samsung is removing software support for some Galaxy S and A series smartphones. Anyone who still uses a Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite in everyday life should slowly start looking for a new smartphone. But which devices are still affected?
These Samsung smartphones no longer receive updates
Now the latest Galaxy S10 and Note 10 models are also being targeted. Samsung removed some smartphones from the list of supported devices as part of the March security update. This is explicitly the case Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy Note 10 Lite, each of which came onto the market in 2019. In addition, these are also Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A02 affected, which were originally published in 2020 (A71) and 2021 (A02). The Galaxy A71 5G and the A02s will continue to receive updates for around a year.
So if you still use one of the devices mentioned, you should slowly consider switching to a new smartphone. The loss of important security updates also means that critical security vulnerabilities will not be closed in the future. Accordingly, greater caution is required when using it from now on. The various models no longer receive new Android updates anyway.
New smartphones with longer update promises
With the current Galaxy S24 series (test: S24 Ultra), Samsung has once again significantly expanded the update promise for its flagship series. After all, the manufacturer promises around seven years long fresh software updates for the current top models. An end to support is therefore not planned until 2031. In the middle class, however, things look a little different. The Galaxy A35 and A55 are set to receive four Android updates and five years of security patches. The whole thing is similar with the Galaxy A05s.
