Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra camera review: comparison with iPhone and Pixel

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra basically looks like its predecessor. Changes can only be found if you take a look at the hardware. It is particularly noticeable with the camera, because for the first time Samsung has installed a 200 megapixel snap with the matching sensor called Isocell HP2 on the back. This should shine especially in low light, capture more details and reproduce colors more accurately. You can find out what else the device can do in the test (Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in test: camera, hardware and comparison).

The test images show that it was extremely successful! It doesn’t matter whether it’s day, night or twilight – the camera always captures a great picture. It shows very few weaknesses, if any, when compared to the other top two devices, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra lives up to its name

Because especially in astrophotography, Samsung shows the competition what a smartphone can do. Since the moon showed itself in its full splendor during the test, this was very easy to determine. With Apple and Google, only a glowing point could be captured, with the Galaxy S23 Ultra the fun was just beginning with a high zoom level. In fact, the device manages to capture the moon in great detail and without an exaggerated light show – impressive.

The Samsung was also convincing across the board during the day or at sunset. However, it should be said that the device tends to take quite warm pictures, which is sometimes a matter of taste. Samsung also copes very well with challenges such as moving subjects or backlight, and not a single picture failed in the test.

The macro mode of the camera is also impressive, which really does not leave out any detail. On the other hand, there is standard fare that is satisfactory in terms of quality on the front, because Samsung has only installed a good 12-megapixel camera here, which captures convincing images but is not a technical revolution. The top smartphones hardly stand out from each other here.
