Samsung Exynos 2400 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

This year, Samsung reintroduced the two-track system that was actually abolished in 2023: In North America, all Galaxy S24 models come on sale with the well-known, powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which, among other things, also has a greatly improved NPU for AI applications. In Europe, however, the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ are released with Samsung’s own SoC Exynos 2400 – only the Ultra model comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in a slightly overclocked version.








However, during discussions with Samsung before the release of the Galaxy S24 series, a representative of the South Korean manufacturer indicated that the Exynos 2400 SoC was comparable in performance to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Golem.de checked this and the performance of the Galaxy S24 (8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage) compared with the Galaxy S24 Ultra (12 GB RAM, 256 GB storage), also in the AI ​​area.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy installed in the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a total of eight cores in a 1+5+3 core configuration. The Cortex-X4 prime core has a maximum clock speed of 3.39 GHz, plus five Cortex-A720 (3 x 3.1 GHz, 2 x 2.9 GHz) and two Cortex-A520 with 2.2 GHz. The graphics unit is an Adreno 750. The Exynos 2400 has ten cores: one Cortex-X4 with 3.21 GHz, five Cortex-A720 (2 x 2.9 GHz, 3 x 2.59 GHz) and four Cortex-A520 with 1 .96GHz. Samsung’s Xclipse 940 is used as the graphics unit.

The performance of the Ultra model with Snapdragon is consistently higher

In the device and graphics benchmarks, the picture is quite clear: the performance of the Galaxy S24 Ultra with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is above that of the Galaxy S24 with its Exynos 2400 in all of the tests we conducted. In the single-core test of the In Geekbench 6, the Galaxy S24 achieved 2,075 points – a good value, which is, however, noticeably lower than the 2,321 points achieved by the Ultra model.




In the multi-core test, the Galaxy S24 is also behind the Ultra, which scores 7,230 points, with 6,676 points. In the Wild Life Extreme Unlimited test of the 3DMark benchmark, the Galaxy S24 achieved 4,306 points and 25.79 fps, while the Ultra achieved a noticeably higher 5,047 points and 30.22 fps.

Comparison of Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

This measurable difference continues in the pure graphics benchmarks: In the 1440p Aztec Ruins Vulcan (High Tier) Offscreen test of the GFX Bench, the Galaxy S24 achieved 75 fps and the Ultra achieved 89 fps. In the 1080p Manhattan 3.1 offscreen test, the Galaxy S24 achieved 214 fps, while the Ultra achieved 229 fps.

It is also interesting to take a look at the 3DMark Wild Life Stress Test. This runs the same graphics benchmark 20 times and measures how the performance values ​​change. The temperature is also recorded at the same time. Unsurprisingly, the Ultra model also achieves a basic level that is higher than that of the Galaxy S24.

The weakest result for the Ultra model, 8,193 points in the 20th run, is already below the Galaxy S24 in run number 13. In the end, the Galaxy S24 drops to 7,684 points due to throttling and gets a little warmer than that, up to 47 degrees Galaxy S24 Ultra (44 degrees). The frame rate range of 27 to 111 fps is also lower than that of the Ultra, which reaches 29 to 133 fps.
