Samsung Expands Tizen OS Market Presence with New Licensing Partnerships – Samsung Newsroom United Kingdom

Samsung has announced partnerships with leading international ODM (Original Development Manufacturing) companies such as Atmaca, HKC and Tempo. The collaboration will bring Smart TV models to the market for the first time that use the Tizen open-source operating system, but are not from Samsung. New TVs from Bauhn, Linsar, Sunny, Vispera and more brands will be available this year in Australia, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. This means that even more users can enjoy a consistent Smart TV experience with easy operation and menu navigation.

Tizen as an Operation System (OS) is now available on other devices in addition to Samsung Smart TVs. Samsung’s Tizen TV Platform Licensing Program was announced at last year’s Samsung Developer Conference (SDC). It allows other TV brands to take advantage of Tizen OS features. Tizen OS offers smart TV functions, content discovery, apps and a modern user interface for an intuitive TV experience that other manufacturers can now offer their customers.

Samsung works with a number of partners to license content and advance hardware. This is intended to support the seamless introduction of Tizen OS. These partnerships give many TV brands access to a modern world of entertainment. At the same time, the expansion strengthens the ever-growing ecosystem around Tizen OS. Key features that users of the licensed TV brands will have access to include:

  • Samsung TV PlusSamsung’s free streaming TV and video platform offers live TV, entertainment, news, shows and sports on over 100 channels.
  • Universal Guide, which allows easy browsing and discovery of all content across different streaming apps. Additionally, it provides personalized recommendations so users can spend more time on their favorite content and less time searching for it.
  • bixby as a language assistant, which can be used to control the Smart TV easily and conveniently by voice.

Since Samsung’s collaboration with the Linux Foundation and the first Tizen OS version in 2012, the number of Tizen OS users has grown exponentially. Around 200 million people in 197 countries are currently using Samsung Smart TVs with this operating system. With the new Smart TVs based on Tizen OS, this number will continue to increase.

Not only are we celebrating its 10th anniversary, but we are entering a new era as we license it to other TV brands,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “The announced partnerships are just the beginning for us.
