Samsung Electronics and Google Cloud have announced a new multi-year partnership: Samsung smartphone users around the world will be able to use generative AI functions from Google Cloud. Starting with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series announced at Galaxy Unpacked in San Jose, California, Samsung will be the first Google Cloud partner to deliver AI over the cloud on its Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 smartphones on Vertex.

Samsung is the first Google Cloud partner to provide Gemini Pro on Vertex AI to users. Gemini Built from the ground up to be multimodal, it can generalize, seamlessly understand, process and combine different types of information such as text, code, images and videos. Starting with native Samsung applications, users of the Galaxy S24 series can use the functions in the note assistant, the transcription assistant and the Samsung keyboard1 use. When using Gemini Pro on Vertex AI, Samsung users are provided with important Google Cloud features, including relevant security and privacy features.
Users of the Galaxy S24 series benefit from Imagen 2, Google’s most advanced text-to-image diffusion technology to date from Google DeepMind – because Imagen 2 on Vertex AI provides secure and intuitive image editing functions. In the Galaxy S24 series, this function comes in generative image editing2 used in Samsung’s Gallery app.
As part of this partnership, Samsung is also one of the first customers to test Gemini Ultra – Google’s most powerful and largest model for highly complex tasks. The Galaxy S24 series will also use Gemini Nano, an on-device LLM delivered as part of the Android 14 operating system – Gemini’s most efficient model for on-device tasks.
