Salzburg Festival: Bohuslav Martinů’s “The Greek Passion” – Culture

There are not many operas that directly address the major social and political problems of our time. Luigi Nono’s “Intolleranza 1960” is one of them, the work was already shown in 2021 with sensational success at the Salzburg Festival. So what do you take if you want to bring the never-ending refugee crisis, the misery of those displaced from their homeland, the fear of strangers and biting egoism to the opera stage? The choice fell on Bohuslav Martinů at the festival this year. His opera “The Greek Passion” – “The Greek Passion” – is the last opera premiere of the Salzburg summer and was enthusiastically received, cheering for everyone involved.
