Salman Rushdie said he was spending wonderful days in Frankfurt during his first public appearance at the book fair. He spends them almost exclusively with journalists. The affection was mutual and there was great joy in seeing the author, who was seriously injured on stage by an Islamist at a literature festival in August 2022, in relatively good shape. Rushdie said he was glad to be there to talk about it, but it was close.
