Saarland – Wolfspeed factory secured – economy

Saarland’s Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger (SPD) does not expect a new subsidy debate for the planned construction of a semiconductor plant by the US group Wolfspeed in Saarland. “Nothing will go wrong there. I’m very, very sure that we can do it together with the company,” said Rehlinger. The background to this are billions in additional claims from the US company Intel for the construction of a large chip factory in Magdeburg. However, Rehlinger urgently called for an industrial electricity price so that Germany remains competitive as a business location. The EU Commission must decide more quickly on state aid for companies. Wolfspeed wants to build a plant in Saarland for the equivalent of 2.75 billion euros. Rehlinger described the US group’s decision as an important contribution to enabling structural change in Saarland to succeed. One is very well coordinated with the federal government and has positive signals from the EU.
