AMD already presented new mobile processors at CES 2023, Razer is bringing the Ryzen 7940HS into particularly flat notebooks from the Blade 14 series with a 14″ display. At a height of just under 18 mm, the processor has a thermal design power (TDP) of up to To be able to cool up to 54 watts and a Geforce RTX from Nvidia with 140 W TDP, Razer installs a vapor chamber.
At the time of publication, AMD also reveals some details about the 7040HS series. All three chips come with an integrated RDNA3 graphics unit aka Radeon 700M. Compared to the Rembrandt predecessor, the number of cores remains the same, with a maximum of 12. However, they clock at up to 2.8 GHz, while the predecessor’s RDNA2 units only clocked at 2.4 GHz. Depending on the model, there are two or four accelerators for ray tracing.
There are also details about the AI accelerator called XDNA: As with large AI chips, such as Tesla’s Dojo, the 20 computing cores are directly connected to each other. In this way, calculation results can be exchanged directly instead of taking the detour via a memory.
For example, different layers of a neural network can be mapped to the cores so that the output of one layer becomes the input of the next. AMD specifies the computing power as 10 TOPS at Int8, and the floating-point data type Bfloat16 is also supported in addition to integers with 8, 16 and 32 bits. AMD also shows benchmark results that see the processing power of the Ryzen 7940HS ahead of Apple’s M2 Pro and Intel’s Core i9 13900H.

The new Blade 14 can already be pre-ordered, Razer offers three variants. The cheapest at $2,400 comes with a Geforce RTX 4060 and 16 GB of DDR5-5,600 memory. The more powerful RTX 4070 is available for 2,700 US dollars, for another 100 US dollars there is twice as much RAM with 32 GB. Delivery is scheduled for June 20, 2023.
The case is made of aluminium, the most expensive model is silver and the 16 GB models are black. The RAM can be expanded to up to 64 GB in all models, two memory sockets are installed. All models come with a 1 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD, a 240 Hz QHD+ display in 16:10 format, an RGB backlit keyboard and Microsoft’s Pluton chip.
