Ukraine has been fending off a major Russian attack for over two years. However, major Ukrainian successes were a long time ago. Nevertheless, the belief in a Ukrainian victory seems unbroken.

Despite increasing setbacks on the front, more than 80 percent of Ukrainians are still convinced of a victory Russia. 59.5 percent of those surveyed fully believe in a victory in the war, said the renowned Razumkov Institute in Kiev. Another 23.4 percent answered “probably yes” to the question. Only eleven percent answered “no” or “probably no”. The rest refrained from answering.

However, only 21.9 percent of participants who are confident of victory expect a victory this year. Another 34.5 percent expect the Russian defeat within one to two years. The rest assume a longer war.

Among the Ukrainians who are confident of victory, 45.5 percent believe that victory is associated with the complete expulsion of the Russian attackers from Ukrainian territory, including Crimea. Another 23.1 percent see the destruction of the Russian army followed by an uprising by the war enemy and the collapse of Russia as a victory. However, almost a quarter see an end to the war without a complete withdrawal of Russian troops as a Ukrainian victory.

Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for over two years. Including the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, a good fifth of Ukrainian territory is under Russian control.

2020 Ukrainians over the age of 18 took part in the survey, conducted March 21-27 with face-to-face interviews in all Ukrainian-controlled parts of the country. The survey error is a maximum of 2.3 percent.
