Russia: How Putin is stoking hatred of migrants after the attack

After the attack in Moscow, raids against migrants began in Russian cities. Human rights activists fear that innocent people could also become victims of the investigation – as in the past.

Last Tuesday they took Alisher (not his real name) with them; he had only left the house briefly to buy bread. The police wanted to see his documents and took him to the station in a village not far from Moscow. “Why can’t you just sit at home for ten days?” one of the police officers asked him on the way. By that he meant: all Tajiks. Maybe all migrants from Central Asia, that wasn’t clear to Alisher.
