Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Rami Malek star in a new film about the Nuremberg trials.

The “Nuremberg” project has apparently found its main actors: The two Oscar winners Russell Crowe (59, “Gladiator”) and Rami Malek (42, “Bohemian Rhapsody”) as well as Michael Shannon (49, “Nocturnal Animals”) are said to be appearing in it . James Vanderbilt (48) will direct the historical drama, which is set in post-war Germany. This is reported by the US industry magazine “Deadline”.

Rami Malek will take on the role of American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley. In the Nuremberg trials, he had the task of assessing the sanity of the defendants in court. The film is probably primarily about his encounters with Russell Crowe’s character, Hermann Göring. He was accused as the highest-ranking National Socialist in Nuremberg. Michael Shannon, meanwhile, is set to portray Robert H. Jackson. The American lawyer was the main prosecutor for his country at the Nuremberg trials.

Filming starts in Hungary in February

According to the report, director James Vanderbilt also wrote the script for the planned film. It is based on the book “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist” by Jack El-Hai (65). Vanderbilt said in a statement about his new project, according to Deadline, “What an absolute honor it is to work with such a tremendously talented group of actors.” He “can’t wait to bring this amazing true story to the screen.” Filming is scheduled to begin in Hungary in February 2024.

The Nuremberg Trials have been filmed several times. In 2000, for example, “Nuremberg – In the Name of Humanity” was released with Alec Baldwin (65) as chief prosecutor Robert H. Jackson and Brian Cox (77) as Hermann Göring. The 1961 film “Judgment at Nuremberg” starred Spencer Tracy (1900-1967) and Burt Lancaster (1913-1994).
