Two animals are run over in quick succession in the Cologne area. Most likely they were wolves – possibly young animals from a pack on the move on the border with Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Lanuv State Environment Agency is currently examining the carcasses of two road-killed animals in the greater Cologne area. The run-over bodies were found last Friday and Saturday on the A560 motorway between Siegburg and Hennef and on the A61 near Erftstadt-Gymnich. The “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” had previously reported.

Among other things, experts used genetic samples to test whether the animals are related to each other, a Lanuv spokeswoman said on Tuesday. It will also be examined whether they were healthy and what they ate before the accidents.

Were the wolves passing through Cologne?

There is a lot to be said for the fact that there are young people Wolves were on the move, said the spokeswoman. But that is still being investigated.

Encountering a wolf in Germany was already less likely. The robbers are gradually becoming at home in this country again. Find out how you should behave if you meet a wolf here:

In the spring, young wolves usually leave their pack and look for their own territory, the spokeswoman explained. They covered long distances. In Leuscheid on the border with Rhineland-Palatinate there is a wolf pack with cubs.
