Ruhpolding: Hikers discover dead people in a mountain stream while canyoning – Bavaria

Canyoning athletes enter gorges that otherwise remain untouched, looking for adventure. But nobody would wish for the gruesome discovery that a canyoning group had to make on Friday afternoon. The mountaineers are in the border area between Germany and Austria near Ruhpolding when their tour guide comes across a dead man in the Fischbach.

There was no mobile phone reception at the site where the body was found, so the mountain guide descended the creek until he could call the police. The Ruhpolding inspection sends a patrol, but they have to call for reinforcements to recover the body. The man’s body was so difficult to access that it had to be recovered with a police helicopter.

The investigators assume a tragic accident, since there is no evidence of third-party involvement. The dead person could be an 82-year-old hiker from the Altötting district. The man had apparently strayed from the path and then crashed through the steep forest area into the creek bed.
