Rugby international Mohamed Haouas tried on Tuesday for domestic violence

Already tried twice for acts committed during his youth, Mohamed Haouas, pillar of the XV of France of rugby, will appear again, this Tuesday afternoon, in Montpellier (Hérault), before the criminal court, for “domestic violence” .

The MHR player, reigning French champion, has been in pre-trial detention since Sunday, pending the examination of a case for which he faces three years in prison. But it is not “youthful mistakes”, such as this violent fight or these burglaries of tobacco shops in which he is suspected of having participated almost ten years ago, which bring him back to the bar of the court. justice.

Accused of hitting his wife

Mohamed Haouas is this time accused of having hit his wife, Friday, in broad daylight and in front of multiple witnesses and CCTV cameras, in a shopping center in Montpellier. The player had however assured, during his last appearance on the bench of the defendants, on May 12, that his goal was to “never come back to court again”.

“It’s not good what we did that day, I’m sorry, it’s not a source of pride. When you’re young, you do stupid things, “he said then, while he was on trial, with five other people, in particular, for acts of” aggravated violence “. For these facts, dating back to January 1, 2014, the court decision will be rendered on June 30. The prosecution had requested a two-year suspended prison sentence. A year earlier, in February 2022, he received an 18-month suspended prison sentence for burglaries, also in 2014.

‘Bring him out of jail’

Mohamed Haouas “has a judicial record”, conceded his lawyer, Marc Gallix, to AFP on Sunday, and the major challenge of this new hearing will be to “get him out of prison”. It will be a few days before the announcement, on June 21, by Fabien Galthié, of the players selected for the World Cup.

“If they are established, the facts alleged against Mohamed Haouas are unacceptable”, said the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, affirming that “all the consequences which would be imposed” should then be “drawn”, “both on both penal and sporting”.
