After group dances, Let’s Dance features the first pair dances. A cha-cha-cha performance cannot convince the jury and the audience. On the edge of the floor, the Ukraine conflict is also discussed.

Entrepreneur Lilly zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg was the first prominent participant to leave the RTL dance show “Let’s Dance” this year. The 49-year-old had to leave the dance floor after the second episode.

“But it was fun,” said the princess. Her cha-cha-cha with dance partner Andrzej Cibis (34) on “Waiting for a Star to Fall” by Boy Meets Girl initially received eleven jury points. Together with the votes of the spectators, that wasn’t enough to get through to the next round.

On the other hand, track and field athlete Mathias Mester (35) triggered great enthusiasm at the jury panel. Together with his dance partner Renata Lusin (34), he achieved 21 jury points – the highest score of the evening. “This man has power, this man has rhythm in his blood,” said juror Jorge González (54) about Mester’s Cha-Cha-Cha.

Joachim Llambi, who was back on the jury after a positive corona test last week, praised the top athlete’s tact and joy of dancing. In the next few weeks, however, he still has to work on his leg posture, among other things. Presenter Janin Ullmann (40), model Cheyenne Ochsenknecht (21) and circus artist René Casselly (25) also received positive jury reviews.

Russia-Ukraine conflict also an issue

The conflict over Ukraine was also discussed in the live broadcast. You don’t want to close your eyes, said moderator Daniel Hartwich (43) – “especially in a show where traditionally many people from Russia and Ukraine take part.” This program also includes people whose families are directly affected. However, a conscious decision was made to offer entertainment that evening.

Juror Motsi Mabuse wore a blue and yellow bow on her top during the show. The 40-year-old wrote on Twitter on Thursday morning that she was worried about her in-laws. Her husband Evgenij Voznyuk is from Ukraine, his parents still live there.

Ukrainian flags and colors

Jorge González also integrated the national colors of Ukraine into his outfit. The judge wore a blue and yellow ribbon in his long artificial braid, which he draped over the edge of the judges’ desk during the broadcast. Comedian Oliver Pocher (44), who cheered on his wife Amira (29), presented himself to the audience in a T-shirt with the Ukraine flag printed on it.

Professional dancer Vadim Garbuzov (33), who is dancing with actress Sarah Mangione (31) this season, was born in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Five other dancers from the professional ensemble come from Russia. Before the live broadcast, RTL published a video in which jury member Mabuse and several of the dance professionals spoke about their concerns about the conflict.

Actor Hardy Krüger Jr. (53) tested positive for the corona virus this week and had to sit out the dance show. “He’s fine and we hope he’ll be back next week,” said RTL in Cologne on Thursday.
