The BBC has announced a new documentary about Queen Elizabeth II. There should be special footage to see.
Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her platinum jubilee this year. To mark the occasion, the BBC is releasing a new documentary about the 96-year-old British monarch. “The BBC has been granted special access to hundreds of private home videos filmed by the Royal Family, including clips of a young Princess Elizabeth smiling at her engagement ring,” reads an announcement.
Also rare footage of the Queen with her uncle Prince George (1902-1942), the Duke of Kent, and the royal family at Balmoral in 1951, a year before the death of her father, King George VI. (1895–1952) are said to be among them.

Overall, the 75-minute documentary “Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen” is primarily about the period from birth to her coronation at the age of 27 in 1953. The filmmakers are said to have viewed over 400 rolls of film that were privately owned by the Royal Collection of the British Film Institute (BFI). In addition, more than 300 speeches by the Queen were evaluated. “It’s an extraordinary glimpse into a very personal side of the Royal Family that is rarely seen and wonderful to share with the nation as we mark their platinum anniversary,” said Simon Young, BBC History Editor-in-Chief. in a statement.
Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne of Great Britain since June 2, 1953. The culmination of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be the days of June 2-5. Plans include street parties and a concert featuring some of the world’s biggest entertainment stars.
The documentary will premiere on BBC One on May 29. It is not yet known when and where it will be broadcast in Germany.
