Royals in the media: What else are you supposed to believe? – Media

Queen Elizabeth II did not give a single in-depth interview during her entire long reign. The BBC sold it as a sensation that the Queen once, in 2018, spoke a bit about her memories of the coronation 65 years earlier in a documentary. Otherwise she occasionally said something about horses or corgies, and otherwise stuck to prepared speech texts. She seemed familiar and remained a mystery at the same time. This keeping of distance was respected by the press and public. But the Queen was already an absolute exception within the Windsor family back then, and since her death there have been different rules in the media’s relationship with the royals. Nothing demonstrates this change better than the case of the subsequently edited Mother’s Day photo of Kate and her children.
